One of the challenges with Use Tax in GP is posting back to accounts other than the tax detail account. Often we want to post back the purchase account (AP) or the Inventory Account (PO). That’s not an option in GP…or is it? If you turn on Canadian Tax or Australian GST you get a new Post To account that lets you post back to the vendor purchase account or the inventory account. (You may have to restart GP after turning this on to see the field.)

Post To
Specify whether you want the purchase tax detail to be posted to a tax detail account, vendor purchase account, or inventory account. This field is available only for purchase tax details, and only if you’ve marked the Enable GST for Australia option or Enable Canadian Tax Details in the Company Setup Options window.
If you use the default post to option—the tax detail account option—the tax for this detail will post to the account entered in the Account field.
If you selected to post to the vendor purchase account, the tax for this detail will post to the vendors purchases account. If the vendor isn’t assigned to a purchases account, the detail will post to the purchases account assigned to the Purchasing series. This option will be used in the Payables Transaction Entry window and for non-inventoried items entered in the Receivings Transaction Entry window and the Purchasing Invoice Entry window.
If you selected to post to an inventory account, the tax for this detail will post to the items inventory account. If an inventory account isn’t assigned to the item, the detail will post to the inventory account assigned to the Inventory series. This option will be used for inventoried items entered in the Receivings Transaction Entry window and the Purchasing Invoice Entry window.
