This came up recently so I thought I would share. In inventory setup you can designate a segment that is tied to an Inventory site. In Item setup you can tie a site to a segment value. In a SOP transaction, the sales account will change based on the site.

So if I assign site 100 to the North warehouse, my default SOP account of 000-4000-000 will change to 100-4000-000 when posted. That all works great, but what happens if you use an allocation account for a sales account? That’s where it gets a little interesting.

If you use an allocation account as the sales account, the segment won’t change. The allocation account already gets transformed into multiple accounts. It won’t go through a double hop of changing the first segment even if that account exists.

For example, site 100 again, account 000-9000-000 is an allocation account. It won’t get transformed into account 100-9000-000 even if that account exists as an allocation account.
