Weekly Dynamic: Make sure Debug is temporary

Tips & Hidden FeaturesInstall, Upgrade & AdminDevelopment & Integration

Archived post from 2013. Dynamics GP and the links it points to have changed since; check current documentation before relying on version-specific steps.

I got burned by debug mode twice last week.

In the first instance a chart of accounts integration that worked previously succeeded but the account type was missing once integrated. The client had left the debugging options on in Integration Manager so every time it ran the windows showed in GP. No big deal except for slowing down the integration. In this case however, that was actually breaking the integration. Turning off debugging fixed the integration.

In the second case, a client effectively had debug mode on permanently in their test company. Again, shouldn’t be a big deal. It’s a test company. We were testing electronic bank reconcile and getting an odd error. Searching the error turned up…you guessed it…debug mode. Turning off debug mode fixed the problem.

I’m not ragging on debug mode. I’m simply saying use it for what it’s intended for, debugging a problem, and then turn it off.
