# These are a few of my favorite frauds

Yes, it’s weird to have favorite frauds, but after a year of covering a fraud a week, there are a few that stand out.

[Bold](/100-million-fraud-at-abb-in-only-2-years/.)est – Myeong-se Oh was the Treasurer and one of two ethical ombudsmen at ABB South Korea. In only two years he made off with $100 million and has yet to be caught. Oh caused the company to borrow money and factor receivables to get as much cash a possible and then he disappeared with it.

[Biggest](/wheres-the-beef-ghost-cattle-fraud/) – $244 million for ghost cattle lost betting on cattle futures. This might also be one of the weirdest. Arguably [Razzlekhan and boyfriend](/wp-admin/post.php) stole more, but much of that was recovered and its value is tied to the volatility of bitcoin. [FTX](/ftx-how-to-do-fraud-at-a-futures-exchange/) and [Celcius](/celsius-crypto-commingling-fraud/) may also turn out to be larger, but there are still opportunities for recovery in those cases. Plus, ghost cattle.

[Saddest](/romance-steal-1-million-pounds-for-your-non-existent-lover/) – The story of Manjit Singh stealing £1 Million for her lover who then turned out to be a fraud is just sad.

[Mostest](/wp-admin/post.php) – Girardi Keese was not the largest fraud we covered but when the named partner of a law firm is stealing customer funds and the CFO is separately stealing funds, there’s a lot of fraud going on all at once.

[Funnest](/wp-admin/post.php) – Committing a fraud inspired by the movie Office Space, which has a fraud scheme running through it, is not the best idea. The perpetrators got caught in the movie and in real life. Still, it’s a lot of fun from the outside.

What did I learn from doing a year of fraud reporting? I learned that many, many frauds are boring. Someone with too much access writes checks to themselves and does the minimum to cover it up. They get away with it for years. Why do we still let this happen? We can do better. Do better in the new year.
