GPUG Summit 2013 Wrap Up

Microsoft & the GP Ecosystem

Archived post from 2013. Dynamics GP and the links it points to have changed since; check current documentation before relying on version-specific steps.

We had a great GPUG Summit in Tampa last week. I had some really positive reactions to my presentations and I managed to learn a lot, including Common Table Expressions in SQL and how to deploy the Web Client.

Big thanks to GPUG for letting me in to meet Tony Dungee.

This was an incredibly smooth conference. It was a short walk from the Embassy Suites, easy to get to sessions, meals and keynotes. Other than leaving my laptop power cord in a session room overnight, this was as smooth as it gets.

As far as GP goes, expect a lot from MS in the first half of 2014. They are working on a completely rebuilt workflow, a brand new requisition application and native copy/paste from Excel to the GL. MS is taking a rocks and pebbles approach making sure the big rock features get in and then dropping in as many smaller items, or pebbles, as they can get done.

I’ve caught the web client bug and I’m enjoying playing with it. Expect to see more web client posts coming up.

Also, a few of us Excel/Power Pivot junkies are tossing around ideas of how we can better learn from each other, including across the Dynamics space. We don’t know what this looks like yet but we’re playing with a number of ideas. If you’re interest, comment on this post or email me and we’ll keep you in the loop.

Finally, a huge thank you to Data Masons and Fastpath for sponsoring our MVP breakfast. We had a good time and we’re looking to continue the new tradition.
